We all have
our own little hang-ups that, for the most part, we rarely even notice. We may
be, to a certain extent, slaves to mild superstitions, and because of this we
have to change our behaviour in any given day. The prospect of walking under
ladders, passing other people on a staircase and even placing a pair of shoes
on a table sends many people into a case of the jitters. In truth, however,
these are relatively small inconveniences, but for some unfortunate men and
women life can be far more problematic.
Those who
suffer from some form of obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD as it’s better
known, will often find it difficult to even leave the home. Sufferers who have
to go to work on a daily basis may find a great many problems as soon as they
arrive at the office, the town hall or the factory, and may have to deal with a
great many issues in any given day. One of the more familiar issues involves
the clutter that you may find on the top of a desk. To some, this is merely a
case of untidiness, but a few people won’t be able to even begin their shift
before they have carried out a major tidy-up.
Whether you
work in a bank in Barking, a factory in Falkirk or a workshop in Walsall, the
chances are your own particular work station will reflect your personality. You
may have pictures of family members on every available space or perhaps a pile
of unwanted sheets of paper that you barely even notice. If you had to go
through life as an OCD sufferer, however, you might only feel comfortable if
everything is well ordered, methodical and scrupulously clean. It’s an
extremely difficult prospect for many men and women in workplaces all over the
world.
Create order by keeping
every cable tidy
One of the
easiest ways to keep workspaces tidy and uncluttered is via effective cable management. If you have a good quality cable organizer in place, the
various wires that are needed to power a number of appliances will be so
orderly that you maybe even fail to notice them from that moment on. By keeping
every single cable tidy, the employee who suffers from OCD can at least be able
to relax properly when he or she is sat at their desk. Peace of mind is
something that it’s always difficult to put a price
on.
Apart from
satisfying those unfortunate men and women who are burdened with some form of OCD, a clean and tidy work station can
also help to increase productivity. Company owners and directors are all too
aware of the need to be as efficient as possible in the increasingly
competitive wold of business, so any opportunity to raise the levels of
productivity surely has to be taken seriously. If it helps to get a step ahead
of major rivals, then so much the better.
For this
reason, a growing number of employers are asking their staff members about
their ideal workspace. It makes sense to listen to these important voices,
because they are imparting vital information. No wonder so many owners,
managers and directors are prepared to invested in cable management systems
that keep everything uncluttered and clean. A very small financial outlay
really can go a long way in the world of commerce at times.
Effective cable
management is a must-have
For the poor
OCD sufferer who has to go to work each day, it can be extremely difficult to
cope with life spent in communal areas. In their own homes and at their own
desks, they can be masters of their own fate. They can organise, tidy and
de-clutter as much as they want, but in shared locations such as office
kitchens and break-out areas, they will have to put up with the
habits and standards of other people.
Unfortunately, that can prove to be very
difficult indeed.
A growing
number of managers and supervisors have begun to understand and empathise, and
have made great strides in making the workplace more bearable for sufferers,
but even the most generous observer will admit there is still a long way to go.
No doubt things will continue to improve in workplaces right across the world,
but it may still be something of a slow process. Time will tell how things turn
out.
In the
meantime, the purchase of a cable organizer for every desk and perhaps for
areas such as server rooms will help everyone, not just those who suffer from
OCD. We all like to see a clean and well organised workplace, and this sense of
order can take on many forms. In a bid to improve productivity and to encourage
it up to new levels, the journey could very well start with a reduction in the
number of jumbled cables that can be seen.
