Safety is Paramount when you work in Rock Drill Pipe Friction Welding

Over the years, there have been a great many stories in the media about tragic accidents in the workplace. In some of the more serious incidents there have even been fatalities, and it’s a sad yet inevitable fact that there will be more such tales in the coming months and years. Despite a stronger focus on health and safety in the workplace, it seems there are still some companies and some employees who simply do not take the matter seriously enough. In a perfect world, an industrial accident would never happen. Unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world at all.

Anyone who works in the engineering sector needs to be aware of every rule and regulation regarding their safety, and this can take a great deal of time to do. If a new member of the team joins, he or she will often want to get started straight away on an oil drill pipe friction welding project – and that is completely understandable, of course – but there should be advice from management about safety first. This rather impetuous attitude on behalf of the employee really needs to be reined in at this early stage.

It goes without saying that there is more to an engineering workshop than a rock drill pipe friction welding machine. There are a number of high tech appliances in even the smallest of work locations in this fascinating yet demanding sector of industry. Anyone who arrives for their first day of work in such an environment will no doubt be raring to go, and may even be champing at the bit to start working in earnest. This may be perfectly normal, of course, but there needs to be a great deal of patience before any buttons are pressed on the oil drill pipe friction welding machine.

In many workplace locations in just about every sector of industry, a new starter will have to undergo an in-depth induction process. This will detail and highlight any potentially dangerous appliances and systems, and the inductee should pay close attention to everything that is being shown to them as well as everything that is being said. If the mind starts to wander while this is going on, it is no exaggeration to say that the consequences could prove to be disastrous. Therefore, make sure you listen if it happens to you.

Remember the advice before you start up the oil drill pipe friction welding machine

There are some working environments which play host to jobs which, to put it bluntly, can drive you crazy with tedium. These are often repetitive tasks which require little or no mental agility, and because of this the employee may eventually feel like nothing more than a part of machine, performing process after process without giving a single thought to what he or she is doing. These are the types of jobs which most of us would get away from at the earliest opportunity.

In the engineering sector, however, there will be fewer examples of this, both in the large workshops and the smaller ones. There is something highly enjoyable about having a job which allows you to express your creativity, and which gives you a tangible finished product which you can hold in your hand and think to yourself ‘I made that’. Some of us pace a high importance on the chance to be creative, and that is why jobs in this particular field are often in high demand, especially among school and college leavers

The most important thing when starting a job in an engineering workshop, and this is by far the most important, is the ability to learn how to work safely. If you are likely to be something of a loose cannon in the workplace who doesn’t take safety as seriously as you should, the chances are you will not be allowed to operate a rock drill pipe friction welding machine or any other high tech appliance. In the long run, you may even find that you are unable to keep your job at all if your attitude to this matter does not show signs of improvement.

Sad to say, too many men and women who don’t take safety as seriously as they should only find out their errors via the hard way. Having an accident that could have been avoided in the workplace is a quick and unfortunate way to realise that you were wrong. Whether you are working in oil drill pipe friction welding, metal fabrication or on a CNC machine, any slip in standards could easily cause a very serious injury. Let’s all hope that lessons can be learned during that first induction rather than later on. It’s in everyone’s interest for all new members of the team to do all they can in this crucial area.
